Councillor for Economic Affairs, Álvaro Pimentel, inaugurated the 4th edition of the Space Forum in 2026, an event that brought together all the public and private companies and institutions that make up this forum, which drives the initiative “Seville, Spanish Space Capital” led by the Seville City Council.

During his speech, the councillor highlighted that “the development of the aerospace sector in Seville is not something circumstantial, but rather the result of sustained planning and public-private collaboration involving institutions such as the City Council, the Regional Government of Andalusia, the Spanish Space Agency, as well as leading companies, universities, and research centres.”

He explained that “space is, by definition, a global field, and from the City Council we promote international cooperation so that our startups can compete in the most demanding environments.”

He added: “Our ultimate goal is for Seville to become a driver of economic transformation that generates highly skilled employment and attracts valuable investment. The Space Forum is the platform where science and technology are turned into tangible business opportunities for the people of Seville. We are building a solid city model, where leadership in the space economy means greater well-being, certainty, and a stronger future for the coming generations.”

This year’s edition of the Forum featured aerospace engineer, executive, and entrepreneur Gonzalo García Julián, based in Washington, who focused his session on how companies can align with the strategic and financial requirements of the US market.

Following this presentation, Pimentel stated that “Seville is accelerating its leadership in the sector to pave the way for our companies into the United States market, consolidating our city as the main aerospace hub of southern Europe.”

He added that José Luis Sanz’s government is working to ensure that local talent can scale from entrepreneurship to the global market.

“Through programmes such as the ESA BIC Andalucía incubator, located at the Renfe facilities, we are ensuring that innovation is translated into commercial applications with real impact on the productive economy.”
