The solar eclipse on Wednesday, August 12, unfolded normally, with no significant incidents and only occasional traffic congestion in the province of Seville, despite the widespread excitement generated by the astronomical phenomenon.
This was the security assessment provided by Francisco Toscano, the Spanish Government’s subdelegate in Seville. Data from the Civil Guard and National Police showed crowds gathering in parks, on bridges and near rivers. The most notable figures were recorded in the city of Seville, with around 1,000 people at Vega de Triana Park, 200 at the Torre del Oro, 250 along the Juan Carlos I promenade, 800 at Alamillo Park and 600 on Triana Bridge.
In Camas, an estimated 500 people gathered on Santa Brígida Hill, with a similar number near the racetrack in Dos Hermanas. Around 300 people were counted in the Sierra de San Pablo area of Montellano, 200 on the Castle hillside in Alcalá de Guadaíra and 150 in Mairena del Aljarafe, where the concentration of people and vehicles caused minor traffic congestion. Approximately 100 people gathered at the Las Palomas viewpoint in La Puebla de los Infantes, while around 70 assembled near Seville Airport in La Rinconada.
