The second edition of New Space & Solutions has placed Seville at the center of the international space debate during an opening day marked by institutional participation, strong industry presence, and a live connection with the International Space Station. The event, held at the Cartuja Auditorium Seville TechPark, brought together representatives from public administrations, companies, universities, and key players in the New Space ecosystem.

One of the most relevant messages of the day came from the director of the Spanish Space Agency, Juan Carlos Cortés, who highlighted the momentum behind lunar exploration and shared a significant forecast: “in the next 20 years, nearly 400 expeditions to the Moon are expected.” This figure reflects the beginning of a new cycle of technological and industrial activity around Earth’s natural satellite.

During his speech, Cortés emphasized Spain’s role in the space sector, noting that the country ranks as the fourth-largest economy in Europe in this field. He also underscored the strength of Spain’s industrial capabilities, which span from satellite design to operations.

In terms of technological sovereignty, he pointed to the upcoming launch of the Miura 5 as a key step toward autonomous access to space. He also referenced strategic programs such as LEO PNT, secure communications, and the development of new constellations, stressing that “the greatest value lies in the services enabled by satellites.”
