This appointment is a decisive step in Indra Group’s space strategy, as Indra Space is the division that integrates all of the company’s capabilities in this field. This move will consolidate the Spanish company’s position as a European leader capable of covering the entire value chain of space projects, from mission design to in-orbit operations.

Mayo has a solid track record in the aerospace and defence sector, having held senior positions in Spain and internationally. He was president of Galileo Sistemas y Servicios and the Spanish representative on the Board of Directors of Galileo Industries, playing an active role in the development of the European satellite navigation programme. He has also contributed to the definition of the National Space Plan and currently chairs the advisory committee of the European Space Agency (ESA) Navigation Innovation Programme.

Having trained as an aeronautical engineer at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and completed executive studies at IESE Business School, Mayo has joined Indra Space on a mission to strengthen the company’s position in major European programmes and promote new opportunities that will advance the continent’s technological autonomy.

He is committed to space as a dual and strategic field.

Indra Space was established to offer comprehensive end-to-end solutions, covering everything from mission design and satellite manufacturing to the deployment and operation of ground segments. This comprehensive capability enables the company to serve both civil and military customers, strengthening its role in key projects for European defence and technological sovereignty.

Indra currently participates in top-level international missions and programmes, including Copernicus, Galileo, EGNOS, METEOSAT, Sentinel 1-D, and the Vega-C launcher. Building on the success of its new space division, Indra aims to spearhead future strategic projects such as IRIS², which focuses on secure communications, as well as the SpainSat NG and PAZ programmes, both of which are vital for security and Earth observation.

Space is the driving force behind European innovation and autonomy.

The establishment of Indra Space strengthens the company’s dedication to an industry that has evolved into a foundation of dual technologies, directly influencing civil innovation, defence, and security. In an increasingly competitive global context, space is establishing itself as a priority for Europe. Spain, with companies such as Indra, is playing a pivotal role in developing the critical capabilities necessary for its technological future.
