Once again, Seville is becoming the Spanish capital of space as World Space Week 2025 officially begins, running from 4 to 10 October. The programme was presented on 1 October at a press conference organised by the Seville City Council in collaboration with the Space Forum, as part of the Seville Spanish Space Capital initiative.
Seville is leading the way nationally in celebrating this United Nations-promoted event, with more than 40 activities taking place at various locations throughout the city. This figure exceeds last year’s and consolidates Seville’s position as the epicentre of scientific dissemination and technological innovation in the field of space.
This extensive programme has been made possible through the collaboration of the Seville City Council, the Space Forum — a platform uniting over 50 entities from the Andalusian aerospace sector — and numerous public and private institutions dedicated to making space knowledge accessible to the public.
Designed for all audiences and ages, the programme of activities includes a wide variety of events such as a Space Gymkhana, a NASA SPACE APPS Hackathon, a Stratospheric Launch, the 24th Science Fair, astronomy workshops, exhibitions, conferences and talks such as ‘Women in Space 2025’, spectroscopy workshops, technical visits, planetarium sessions and activities to promote entrepreneurship. There will also be telescope plantings.
World Space Week is a United Nations initiative celebrated annually to highlight the impact of space science and technology on improving human life. The theme of this 2025 edition revolves around the relationship between space and climate change — a crucial link in understanding and addressing current environmental challenges.
The complete programme is available via Seville’s official Spanish Space Capital and Space Forum channels. Members of the public are invited to participate in the numerous activities organised to promote learning and enjoyment, and to bring space science closer to society.
