Since the launch of the first satellite in the 1950s, we have not stopped sending objects into space. Most of these objects remain in orbit: decommissioned satellites, rocket debris and fragments from collisions. According to the European Space Agency (ESA), there are currently around 9,000 tonnes of space debris orbiting the Earth, and this figure continues to grow in line with space activity. Should we be concerned? What consequences will this have for future space missions? And for the environment?<\/p>\n

This talk is given by astrophysicist Ren\u00e9 Duffard from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC).<\/p>\n

The conference is aimed at educational centres.<\/p>\n
