The Seville City Council<\/strong> hosted the 5th Space Forum Meeting<\/strong>, bringing together representatives from companies, universities, technology centres, public administrations and organisations linked to the space sector to review the achievements of the 2025\u20132026 period and define the key priorities and objectives for the coming year.<\/p>\n

Held at the Former RENFE Railway Workshops<\/strong> in San Jer\u00f3nimo, the meeting was chaired by \u00c1lvaro Pimentel<\/strong>, Second Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Cartuja, Innovation Parks, Mobility, Economy and Commerce. He highlighted that “just one year ago we set out to turn Sevilla Spanish Space Capital into a genuine city strategy, and today we can say that this ambition is becoming a reality thanks to the joint efforts of institutions, businesses, universities, technology centres and civil society organisations.”<\/em><\/p>\n

During the event, participants reviewed the first year of activity of Sevilla Spanish Space Capital<\/strong>, an initiative promoted by Seville City Council to strengthen the city’s leadership within the emerging space economy and reinforce its position as one of southern Europe’s leading aerospace hubs.<\/p>\n

One of the initiative’s most significant achievements has been the consolidation of the Space Forum<\/strong> as the city’s main governance and collaboration platform for the space ecosystem. The Forum now brings together more than 60 public and private organisations<\/strong>, representing virtually the entire value chain of Seville’s space sector.<\/p>\n

Over the past year, the Forum has held five sectoral meetings, strengthened relationships with national and international organisations connected to the space industry, welcomed new scientific and technological institutions, and promoted numerous initiatives to encourage collaboration, knowledge transfer and innovation.<\/p>\n

Among the year’s major milestones was the organisation of World Space Week 2025<\/strong>, which positioned Seville as one of the European cities with the highest level of participation in the United Nations-backed initiative. The programme featured more than 40 activities<\/strong> and attracted over 5,400 participants<\/strong>, demonstrating the city’s growing capacity to lead large-scale science and technology outreach projects.<\/p>\n

The initiative has also maintained a strong presence at major national and international events related to innovation, aerospace and the new space economy, further enhancing Seville’s international profile while creating new partnerships and development opportunities.<\/p>\n

In terms of communication and positioning, Sevilla Spanish Space Capital<\/strong> has significantly expanded its media and digital presence, increasing nationwide visibility and reinforcing Seville’s association with innovation, science, technology and the industries of the future.<\/p>\n

According to \u00c1lvaro Pimentel, “the greatest achievement of this first year is not simply the figures we have reached, but the community we have built around a shared vision for Seville’s future. We have successfully connected talent, knowledge, businesses and institutions around a common project that is generating new opportunities for our city.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Objectives for 2027<\/strong><\/p>\n

The meeting also outlined the strategic priorities for the coming year. Key objectives for 2027<\/strong> include expanding the network of participating organisations, strengthening international partnerships, attracting new innovation projects linked to the space sector, supporting technology-based entrepreneurship, enhancing collaboration between businesses and research centres, and consolidating Seville as a leading venue for discussion and development within the new space economy.<\/p>\n

The initiative will also continue working to increase public participation in science outreach activities, promote STEM careers among young people, and strengthen connections between the space industry and other strategic sectors driving the city’s economic development.<\/p>\n

World Space Week 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another major priority will be the organisation of World Space Week 2026<\/strong>, taking place from 4 to 10 October<\/strong>, with the ambition of surpassing the achievements of the previous edition by increasing the number of activities, participating organisations and attendees.<\/p>\n

Through these initiatives, Seville City Council<\/strong> reaffirms its commitment to a project that has become one of the city’s most important strategic programmes, fostering innovation, knowledge, highly skilled employment and international visibility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
