Spain has assumed the Presidency of the European Interparliamentary Space Conference (EISC) for 2026<\/a>, under the leadership of the Committee on Science, Innovation and Universities of the Spanish Congress of Deputies. The country thus resumes leadership of this forum, having previously held the Presidency in 2004 and 2015, consolidating its active role within an organization it has been part of since 2000.<\/p>\n

The EISC currently brings together 15 national parliaments committed to strengthening Europe\u2019s role in the space sector, serving as a platform for political dialogue on the main challenges facing the industry.<\/p>\n

The Spanish Presidency will be structured around the theme \u201cSpace as a Common Strategic Asset\u201d, guiding discussions toward key issues such as sustainability, governance, protection of critical infrastructure, space legislation, public awareness, and the development of initiatives such as \u201cDark and Quiet Skies\u201d, according to the Spanish Space Agency (AEE).<\/p>\n

The EISC 2026 Presidency will be led by Sandra Moneo, Chair of the Committee on Science, Innovation and Universities of the Spanish Congress of Deputies and head of the Spanish delegation to the Conference. Andreu Mart\u00edn, also a member of the committee, will serve as Vice-Chair.<\/p>\n

Institutional agenda in Seville<\/p>\n

During 2026, the Congress of Deputies will convene EISC parliamentarians at two key events. The first will be the Annual Workshop, which will take place in Seville from April 12 to 14.<\/p>\n

This meeting will aim to continue the work carried out by previous presidencies and advance discussions on the future of the Conference, space legislation at both national and European levels\u2014including potential regulatory conflicts\u2014the Register of Space Activities, and the role of parliamentarians in conveying the importance of space to society.<\/p>\n
