To mark World Space Week 2025, Seville once again took centre stage in the debate on the future of the space sector by hosting the Conference on Space Security and Defence. This event was organised by the Spanish Space Agency (AEE), the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSI) at the University of Seville, the Air and Space Force, and the Academy of Military Sciences and Arts (ACAMI). The event was made possible thanks to the support of the Seville City Council and the Space Forum, which brings science and space exploration closer to the general public.<\/p>\n
Held on 7 October in the ETSi Hall of Degrees, the meeting brought together experts, institutions and students to analyse the growing importance of space as an essential strategic domain for today’s society.<\/p>\n
\u00c1lvaro Pimentel, Seville City Council’s deputy mayor, said: ‘Seville City Council, through the Seville Spanish Space Capital initiative and with the support of the Space Forum, is taking on the coordination of World Space Week 2025 in Seville with responsibility and enthusiasm.’<\/p>\n
He emphasised that ‘Seville wants to continue advancing as the Spanish Space Capital, and conferences such as these reinforce our leadership and reaffirm our commitment to knowledge, technology, and the future.’<\/p>\n
The conference included two round tables focused on the security of space systems and the opportunities offered by the university in light of the new paradigm in the sector. Representatives from academia and the military participated in these discussions, encouraging open dialogue between professionals and students.<\/p>\n
One of the main objectives of this meeting was to encourage student participation. The organisers wanted to give prominence to young voices, which are essential for shaping the future of the sector and offering fresh insights into the challenges of space security.<\/p>\n
Through initiatives like this one, Seville is reaffirming its commitment to space, innovation, and collaboration between universities, institutions, and the armed forces \u2014 all of which are vital for consolidating its position as Spain’s Space Capital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
