The Seville City Council, through its stand “Seville, Industrial Capital of Southern Europe” at NISE 2025 (New Industry in Southern Europe), held on 2–3 December at the Seville Conference and Exhibition Centre (FIBES), showcased “Seville’s industrial strength and its capacity to lead the new aerospace economy.” This was highlighted by Seville’s Second Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Economy, Álvaro Pimentel, who stressed that “Seville is already the epicentre of the space sector in Spain,” driven by its strategic leadership, the arrival of the Spanish Space Agency, the launch of ESA BIC Andalusia, and the presence of companies such as Airbus.

Following this presentation, leading companies including Airbus, Alter Technology, Solar Mems Technologies and Indaero, together with research groups from the University of Seville and representatives of the European STRATOLASER project, shared advances in automation, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, space navigation and new critical technologies for aerospace and defence. The event also hosted the presentation of the ESA BIC Andalusia incubator and the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS), which is conducting research in space biomedicine with the aim of taking medicine into space and better understanding the effects of space travel on human health. The day concluded with the session “Opportunities for Space Technology-Based Companies,” featuring startups and new projects such as Metadev, Astrolob, Imageryst, Orbital Boost Aerospace, Albor Space, Hisperion Aerospace, Kentia and Foodimental.

Seville, a new incubator of talent and innovative space projects

The presence of ESA BIC Andalusia at NISE 2025 was consolidated as one of the major milestones of the event, reinforcing Seville’s positioning as the leading aerospace and space hub in Southern Europe. Managed by CATEC (Advanced Aerospace Technologies Centre), with the support of the Spanish Space Agency (AEE), the regional government of Andalusia and the Seville City Council, the incubator took part in the “Seville, Industrial Capital of Southern Europe” stand, which became a showcase for talent, innovation and the sector’s business ecosystem.

Through this incubator, Seville is integrated into a European network that already includes more than 2,000 incubated companies and over 230 active startups, placing the region in a strategic position to attract investment, retain talent and generate new business opportunities. With a demanding model that combines €60,000 in non-repayable funding, specialised mentoring and close ties to the Spanish Space Agency, ESA BIC Andalusia is positioned as a key accelerator of New Space in the city.

“We have all the elements for Andalusia to consolidate itself as a European aerospace hub: talent, knowledge, industry and an innovative ecosystem,” said Gracia Catalina Piñeiro, Director of ESA BIC Andalusia, during her address at the Seville City Council stand.

Seville, Industrial Capital of Southern Europe: a cross-cutting space model

With this programme, the Seville City Council reaffirmed its commitment to a cross-cutting space model that integrates leading companies, research talent and new entrepreneurial initiatives, consolidating Seville as the Space Capital of southern Spain and Europe.

The opening ceremony of NISE Seville 2025 was attended by the President of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno Bonilla; the President of the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Andalusia (CEA), Javier González de Lara; and the President of FEDEME, Francisco Javier Moreno Muruve.
