On December 17 at 6:01 a.m. (Madrid time), the fourteenth Galileo launch took place, adding two new satellites—SAT 33 and SAT 34—to the European constellation aboard an Ariane 6 rocket.

The Spanish company GMV has led the development of the constellation’s ground control segment since 2018. Galileo is not only a cutting-edge technological program, but also a guarantee of Europe’s strategic autonomy in a global context marked by geopolitical tensions.

The mission, designated VA266, used an Ariane 6 launcher in its 62 configuration—an Ariane 6 with two boosters—launched from the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou (French Guiana).

The Galileo system has a major direct impact on everyday life—urban navigation, road safety, telecommunications, power grids, and emergency services—providing services to more than 4 billion devices worldwide.
