The Andalusian Aerospace Technology Park, Aerópolis, was established in 2003, very close to San Pablo Airport and the Airbus plant. The construction of this site, with an initial surface area of around 586,000 square metres, also involved the region’s savings banks. The first five companies to “confirm their flight” in this area were Easa del Sur (a Gamesa subsidiary), Inespasa, Elimco, Magtel and Stramer.
Today, the park brings together 60% of Andalusia’s aerospace companies and accounts for 40% of the sector’s turnover. In figures, more than 90 companies are based there, generating annual revenues of over €1 billion and providing around 4,800 jobs.
In addition, Aerópolis is attached to the Regional Ministry of University, Research and Innovation and the Regional Ministry of Industrial Policy and Energy. It forms part of the Andalusian Knowledge System, which integrates innovation and technological development agents in Andalusia, and it is a member of the Spanish Association of Science and Technology Parks (APTE). Its management company, Parque Tecnológico Aeroespacial de Andalucía, recorded profits of €273,157 in 2024 from the leasing and sale of industrial units.
The Advanced Centre for Aerospace Technologies (CATEC) is one of the 90 entities present in the park. It is the largest aerospace technology centre in Spain, with a workforce of more than 150 engineers and technicians and four sites.
Aertec is also represented in the park. It is an international technology company operating in the aerospace, defence and airport sectors. It designs embedded and certifiable systems for aircraft and unmanned aerial platforms (UAS TARSIS), for both civil and military applications.
Another company located in this enclave is Grabysur, focused on the manufacture of illuminated panels and night vision equipment. This company has established itself as a Tier 1 contractor for Airbus.
Beyond Aerópolis, the Andalusian aerospace sector recorded a record turnover of €2.914 billion in 2024 and created 1,056 new jobs, reaching a total of 15,496 direct jobs. The industry represents 13.84% of the region’s industrial GDP.
