SUMMARY:Space debris: the footprint of our space activities
DESCRIPTION:Since the launch of the first satellite in the 1950s\, we have not stopped sending objects into space. Most of these objects remain in orbit: decommissioned satellites\, rocket debris and fragments from collisions. According to the European Space Agency (ESA)\, there are currently around 9\,000 tonnes of space debris orbiting the Earth\, and this figure continues to grow in line with space activity. Should we be concerned? What consequences will this have for future space missions? SUMMARY:Entrepreneurship in Space: Opportunities from Andalusia
DESCRIPTION:Inspirational talk at the CPIFP Javier Imbroda\, a public vocational training centre specialising in aerospace training. The CATEC and ESA BIC Andalucía team will share their experiences of becoming entrepreneurs in the space sector. The talk is aimed at young technicians and vocational training students and will address new opportunities in the field of ‘New Space’\, as well as providing real-life examples of innovation\, such as new satellite coatings and navigation systems. The talk will also cover how to access the ESA BIC Andalucía programme\, which is open for applications until 31 October.

DESCRIPTION:During World Space Week\, visitors to the Casa de la Ciencia Museum will be able to experience a night of astronomical observation at Calar Alto\, the largest astronomical observatory on the European continent\, located in the Sierra de Los Filabres\, north of Almería. \nThis Unique Scientific and Technical Infrastructure is jointly operated by the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC) and the Regional Government of Andalusia and is used by scientists to\, among other things\, search for Earth-like planets outside the solar system. \nVirtual reality glasses will be available for visitors to the Casa de la Ciencia Museum.

DESCRIPTION:Coffee with Science is an activity in which an Andalusian scientist sits down with a small group of guests to chat around a table while enjoying a coffee. \nAttendees are usually students in their final years of secondary school and high school from educational centers throughout Andalusia\, although there are also cafés aimed at the general public.
