SUMMARY:Postcards from other worlds
DESCRIPTION:This immersive experience invites us to travel through the solar system with some of the space probes that have photographed its planets and many of its satellites. \nFor millennia\, the planets were nothing more than tiny dots of light to us. With the invention of the telescope\, Jupiter’s bands and Saturn’s rings could be observed\, and little by little\, satellites of these planets were discovered. But any attempt to represent what a landscape of other worlds would look like belonged\, with varying degrees of success\, to the realm of science fiction. \nOver sixty years of space exploration\, all the planets in the solar system and most of their satellites have been photographed. Apart from their scientific value\, these images show us landscapes never before imagined. Today\, we have been able to see in detail the giant volcanoes of Mars\, the rings of Saturn\, the surface of the comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko\, the impressive frozen deserts of Europa\, the methane lakes of Titan\, the vertiginous cliffs of Miranda and the geysers of Enceladus\, among many other incredible ‘postcards’ offered by our solar system. \nWith the purchase of a ticket to any of the sessions between 4 and 10 October\, CaixaForum will give you another one for free!

SUMMARY:Astrophotography and 3D Models Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition showcases a collection of photographs taken by Astromares astrophotographers. These images\, which speak for themselves\, capture a large number of deep space objects. \nThe 3D models were made using 3D printers and then painted by hand by Astromares members. Each model has a QR code that\, when scanned\, takes visitors to a website where the object is explained. \nThe exhibition is open: \nOpening hours:\nFrom 22 September to 15 October\, during library opening hours.\nOn Fridays\, 26 September and 3 October\, monitors will be present from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.\n– Friday 10 October: 5:00pm–7:00pm.\n– Saturdays: 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monitors and a telescope will be available for solar observation.

SUMMARY:Stratospheric Launch - FyCUS
DESCRIPTION:Our balloon launch is a stratospheric flight that will ascend to an altitude of approximately 30 km in October 2025 from the province of Seville. The gondola will carry a functional model (engineering model) of our future CubeSat and a package of environmental sensors. During the ascent\, parachute descent\, and ground recovery\, temperatures of -60°C\, near-vacuum pressures\, and high levels of UV radiation will be measured\, replicating the quasi-space conditions in which the orbital satellite will operate. All data will be transmitted in real time via radio communications (LoRA) to a ground station and recorded in the onboard memory for later analysis. \nProgram \nFyCUS invites you to experience\, in three chapters\, an authentic journey into the stratosphere: \nMission Briefing\nInformative talk at ETSI where we will present the engineering of our CubeSat 1 U\, the environmental sensors that will travel on board\, and the scientific objectives of the flight. \nStratospheric Launch\nTakeoff of a sounding balloon from the Seville countryside that will reach 30 km. The public will be able to follow it live\, in person and via streaming. \nData\, Science\, and Return\nInformative talk where we will open the recorded data\, explain how a quasi-space environment is analyzed\, and show the impact on the design of the future orbital CubeSat. \nThree milestones\, one experience: discover how a satellite is tested in our own atmosphere.

SUMMARY:Professor Rafael Guzmán of IFCA\, CSIC-UC will present a colloquium on ESA's ARRAKIHS space mission.
DESCRIPTION:The Spanish Space Agency is organising the colloquium. Professor Guzmán will present the mission. \nARRAKIHS is the first ESA scientific programme led by Spain. The consortium responsible for the mission is a scientific-technological collaboration led by Professor Guzmán (Institute of Physics of Cantabria\, IFCA\, CSIC-UC)\, working alongside researchers from the Institute of Physics of Cantabria (IFCA)\, the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE)\, the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM)\, the Centre for Cosmic Physics Studies of Aragon (CEFCA)\, the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA)\, the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM)\, the Institute of High Energy Physics (IFAE)\, the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC)\, and the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA). \nThe ARRAKIHS consortium comprises over 50 researchers from 20 research centres and universities in Switzerland\, Sweden\, Austria\, Belgium\, Norway\, Portugal\, the United Kingdom\, the United States\, Taiwan and Thailand. In terms of industry\, European aerospace companies in Switzerland\, Belgium and the United Kingdom\, led by the Spanish company Satlantis\, are involved in developing the instrument. \nThe main objective of ARRAKIHS is to elucidate the nature of dark matter and the baryonic feedback mechanism by conducting space-based observations of GSE and CEM in the halos of a statistically representative sample of Milky Way-like galaxies in the local universe at surface brightnesses lower than 30 mag/arcsec². Professor Guzmán will present the development of the mission\, after which there will be time for questions. \nDate: 27 October\nTime: 11:30–12:30 (CET)\nLocation: Hybrid event (in person at the ESA auditorium and online). \nImage: Alex Camazón (ARRAKIHS Consortium) \n\n\n

SUMMARY:The November sky
DESCRIPTION:On 1 November\, we will return to our headquarters at Cortijo del Parque del Alamillo for the latest edition of #cielodelmes. \nCarmen Gómez will preview the main astronomical events of the month. Then José Manuel Moreno will talk to us about ‘Volcanism in the Solar System’. \nFor many years\, it was thought that volcanoes were unique to Earth\, but space missions and careful observation have since disproved this theory. In fact\, it is more common than it seems\, with current or past volcanic activity found on many bodies in the Solar System. This talk will discuss their existence\, characteristics and evidence of their presence\, as well as their influence on life\, particularly human life.
